Ali Shojaeian was born in Nahavand. He completed his primary and high school education in this city. He then received his bachelor's degree in Natural Geography with orientation to geomorphology from Razi University of Kermanshah. He received his master's degree in Remote Sensing and GIS from Shahid Chamran University. His academic publishing endeavors include 10 books and nearly one hundred articles. He has also participated in or directed several projects in Khuzestan province relying on potentials of geography science, especially its associated technologies. His research interests include: UAV and mobile mapping photogrammetry in urban planning, as well as the use of WebGIS and MobileGIS systems in laying the groundwork for the new generation of cities.
