Dr. Firouzi was born in Hamedan in March 1953. He received his bachelor's degree in Natural Geography from the University of Tehran in 1976 and his master's degree in Geography from the same university in 1979. In the same year he was employed by the Ministry of Education, and started to teach geography at high schools and teacher training colleges of Hamedan. In 1986, he was transferred to Shahid Chamran Universiy of Ahvaz and started teaching geography as a lecturer in the Department of History. Then he established the Department of Geography and Urban Planning of Shahid Chmran University of Ahvaz. In 2000, he managed to receive his PhD degree in Human Geography from the University of Tehran. The courses he has taught include philosophy of geography and methodology, urban planning, rural planning, and environmental hazards. He has also been the supervisor and advisor of several master's theses and PhD dissertations. His research interests and publications are also in this field.
